Props: Purdue & Brothers Bar
I would like to give a big Cyberprops to my Alma Mater, the one and only, Purdue University. It has taught me so much and has given me memories that I’ll cherish for a lifetime. One example is how I met my first group of friends who would later become members of the fraternity ATO. I remember like it was yesterday. I had just transferred to Purdue from Indiana State University and hadn’t left my room for a week because I didn’t know anyone. I had actually thought I made the wrong decision by transferring because I was so bored and lonely…yes, I am a grown black man that just said I was lonely, don’t judge me… So one day I was playing 50 cent loud in my room and a group of guys who lived in my dorm walked past and asked what song was that playing. After explaining that it was a 50 cent song they said coo I, and I asked, “What are you guys doing?” They told me they were going to a party, and being the friendly guy that I am, I asked if I could join. They said sure and the rest was history.
Purdue also taught me that no matter what background a person has or where they from, at the end of the day, we’re all here for the same thing: to get our degree in whatever field that we’re studying. In the meantime, might as well unwind at Brothers for a few drinks after a rough mid-term or final exam. Speaking of Brothers bar, that place will forever hold a special place in my heart. Its hands down the best bar I’ve been to. It has a great atmosphere, and the bartenders and bouncers are really cool people to hang out with outside of their work.
All in all, Purdue has given me a lot. It gave me a degree from a very tough academic university as well as friends for a lifetime. It opened my eyes to various different cultures of the world and taught me that no matter how hard something may seem, if you give it your all then anything’s possible. I tip my hat off to you, my alma mater. Boiler up and hammer down.
