Props: The Geist Community
A few weeks ago, my comrades gave recognition to the East Side of Indianapolis. They wrote about how much their community means to them, and how much they appreciate all that the East Side has given them. Luckily, I could completely relate to their blog post because I myself grew up on the east side for the first fifteen years of my life. After reading their blog post, it inspired me to give recognition to the community that I have resided in for the past nine years. So props to you, Geist, and the Geist community.
Many things come to mind when thinking about what in the Geist community deserves recognition. First, the local eateries that are truly part of the community come to mind. We have Eddy’s, where you can go get amazing food and have friendly service. Puccini’s (both locations) has great craft beer, amazing pizza and excellent service. The Grille, where you get the best drink specials and live music to dance to, and lastly, if you’re trying to sit back and get a view of the lake, Bella Vita is perfect. Bella Vita in itself is a unique restaurant, and I can guarantee that there is not a better atmosphere in any restaurant in the state.
However, there is so much more in Geist that deserves recognition. The biggest part of our community is the Geist Reservoir, or ‘the lake’. The lake is the center of everything the community stands for. Geist stands for a friendly community where everyone is your neighbor and also to enjoy everyday to the fullest. On any given warm summer day you can go out on the lake and fully experience what Geist stands for. Every boat that passes by will give you a friendly wave. You can troll around cocktail cove and be offered anything from beer to snacks while taking part in a boat tie-up. If one wants to cruise around the lake, they can do that, see sailboats idling around and even a dog wearing a life jacket. Every day when I go out on the lake I feel like a kid in Disney land. Sometimes we go out and do water activities, other times we just cruise around and always run into people we haven’t seen in awhile. That’s the best thing about the lake; no matter what, you’re guaranteed a good time, and everyone you run into will be your friend.
The Geist community is one that looks out for each other in so many ways. May it be banning together to get a billboard taken down or a neighbor helping with yard work, Geist is a community where everyone is welcome. Whether you’re joining the community for a day on the lake, or moving there for good it doesn’t matter, you will always be treated with a warm community feel and will have the chance to enjoy the community like so many do. Props to you, Geist, for giving me all the great memories I share with you. Props to summer days spent on the lake. Props to the restaurants for making the community so unique. Props to everyone in the Geist community for making it the place it is.
Editors Note:
The communities we are involved in have such a major impact on our daily lives. The communities we live in make us the individuals we are. I know we all have respect for the communities we reside in, but sometimes we fail to give them the recognition they deserve. So, if you have feelings towards your community like the writers of the East Side post or this Geistastic post I challenge you to write a blog. Write a blog, let your community know how you feel about them. I promise it’s a rewarding experience. Send any and all submissions to [email protected]. Cheers.
