After a recent brutal and devastating breakup, a very good friend of mine gave me an incredible piece of wisdom. As I stand on the sidewalk emotionally distraught and broken down, she says to me, “sometimes we have to kiss a few frogs before we find our prince.” I bitterly told her, I don’t want to kiss anyone anymore. And in that moment I didn’t want to hear that there’s the possibility that my lips will be chapped, and my heart may be broken again. But looking back on that day she was right. I have kissed many frogs in my day, and while I’m still not looking forward to kissing another, I know that I probably will.
I have started to look at it this way; I will go from pond to pond, lily pad to lily pad kissing different types of frogs as many other women my age will do. We will have chapped lips, broken hearts over and over again until we kiss that one frog who turns into the prince who will bring us an endless supply of chap stick and real love to mend our broken hearts.
It’s a discouraging outlook I know, and some may wait until they know they have found their frog prince, others will not. I can understand the hesitation to continue on waiting and hoping for the right one to hop along. It can be aggravating, time consuming, and emotionally draining. But maybe in the end, you will look back and see that it was all worth it. You will understand why it never worked out for whatever reason because it was never really supposed to work out. Realizing that it was where you were supposed to be and who you were supposed to be with in order to grow and learn. It was meant to put you in a better position to find the one who is meant for you. For those reasons, I think I will keep jumping and moving to each lily pad until I find the one that’s just right for me.
So those who choose to jump on to the next lily pad and go out looking for your frog prince, I say to you, jump high and don’t get discouraged. Your prince is out there probably kissing a few frogs himself. In perfect timing it will all make sense, and someday, you will end up in the pond with your prince. But in the meanwhile, here’s to us: the frog kissers. May we find the toad who is worth kissing.
