Janelle Monae’s Wondaland Records newest star, Jidenna, has become a force to be reckoned with- with such a hit as “Classic Man” which easily becomes the summer anthem for today’s well-heeled gentleman. The son of the “father of the African computer industry” Oliver Mobisson, has managed to make being cavalier cool again. His style – which he calls, “swanky,” has more to do with attitude than couture, and women everywhere are swooning. His intriguing, chic and relaxed, yet subtly edgy demeanor in conjunction with his individuality and thoughtful lyrics, sets him apart from the rest of the pack.
Already getting a peek of what’s to come from his second single “Long Live the Chief” previewed via VEVO DSCVR (Live). Jidenna delves a little deeper into what exactly makes him the coolest guy in town. And I, for one, am pleased that he finally answers that burning question we all have concerning his wardrobe with more pithy humor than he has done in his past interviews.
“Now they say, ‘Jidenna why you dressin’ so classic?’ I don’t want my best dressed day in a casket.”
Under the watchful eye of Ms. Monae, I am sure we can expect an exciting and unique experience from Jidenna’s first album. Which I predict will lead to a future generation of young men who aim to be as classic, sophisticated, and cool as Jidenna himself – reviving vintage days of the well-dressed and well-spoken.
And ladies, do not think that you cannot also pick-up a few things from the book of “SWANK” as written by Jidenna and personified by Miss Janelle Monae. Just look at the duo’s hit song “Yoga.” This cool “party and ponder” piece is a true testament to the talent, style, and flair of Wondaland artists, as well as a great example what it takes to have SWANK. Essentially boiling it down to Jidenna’s infamous line, “You can be mean when you look this clean.”
